22 November 2011 Article Written By Allan Hayes

After a positive glut of videogames in the last month or so the run in to Christmas could be considered slightly quieter in regards to exciting releases. October and November were truly blockbuster months, revealing a trend within the industry to ensure by the time Christmas lists are being written, their games are etched into the minds of each and every child across the land.

Christmas List Essentials:

The past 2 months have seen some bumper releases, across many genres and disciplines.  Many of which will be sent up the chimney in the run up to the festivities.

Upcoming releases:

Seemingly we have been spoilt over the past few months because December’s releases are in no way the same calibre. If however you have already been out and bought all the essentials or are looking for something to throw onto the Christmas list why not try the following?

Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)

Probably the most exciting game (at least for Star Wars fans) to get a release before the end of the year, The Old Republic will open up an entire universe to wannabe Jedis. As an MMO it borrows much from World of Warcraft in terms of gameplay although has raised the bar considerably. Previews have highlighted its atmospheric setting and the ability to build a true character personality, complete with dilemmas to test your morality.

WWE 12 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii)

Another year, another churned out wrestling game which this time “includes The Rock as a playable superstar.” Well perhaps not, this is the first time the moniker of WWE has been applied to a game, Smackdown Vs Raw has been dropped and according to previews the game has improved mechanics, realism and even storylines. Whilst it may not convert newcomers to the genre, fans of WWE will almost certainly enjoy it.

National Geographic Challenge (Xbox, PS3, Wii)

For a “learning is fun” present your Grandparents/Uncle/Aunt may see this as an appealing option, it may even provide some welcome distraction from the tripe they serve up on television over the Christmas period. The questions aren’t too difficult although there is a hard setting if you fancy a challenge, just remember, no smartphone cheating allowed.

For those itching to get their lists off to Santa these are just some of the videogame contenders on offer. Excited about another videogame release or are you going to wait until next year for a different title? Let us know below.
